Miss Joan Crawford Frequented Flo Minga's

In 1955 the legendary movie star Joan Crawford married Pepsi-Cola board chairman Alfred N. Steele. In 1959 Miss Crawford was elected to the Pepsi board of directors two days after her husband's fatal heart attack and later became a publicity executive. She remained associated with the firm for the rest of her life and visited Baton Rouge many times during her worldwide travels. Joan always found time to dine at Flo Minga's and enjoyed unwinding at the bar in the festive Flo-Go Lounge with several vodka and Pepsi Colas. According to staffers, she especially liked Flo's pulled pork and usually ordered a fried peach pie for dessert. Miss Crawford died of a heart attack in her Manhattan home on May 10, 1977. An autographed picture of the star is included on the restaurant's Wall of Fame.

I have read about that Miss Joan Crawford and she did indeed stay in Airline Highway motels during her many public and private visits to Baton Rouge. Joan said she loved the laid back lifestyle and liked to get away from Hollywood to "let her hair down a bit". There are still many on the Airline who remember "Joanie" and her poolside antics.
